Longleaf Alliance
PAM, Biodiversity Credits
We are working with the Longleaf Alliance and other partners in the southeast US to pilot a framework for biodiversity credits in longleaf ecosystems that complement regional conservation planning efforts, guide and inform the design of biodiversity credits in longleaf, and increase access and market participation for small and underserved landowners.
Current Partners
Biodiversity conservation has significant challenges that require a united effort. We need to build partnerships and adopt innovative approaches in research, education, communication, and policy to address these challenges. CHESS is committed to collaborating with various partners to make this happen. Check out our current and former partners below to see how our joint initiatives are making a meaningful impact on biodiversity conservation.
Past Partners
Since 2012 we have worked with partners in South Carolina and the eastern US.
Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute
We worked with the SCBI to model how biodiversity and ecosystem services may change under future land use change scenarios. Results from the work are published here
Greenville Water
We worked with Greenville Water to conduct a departure analysis that informed future burning plans in the watershed
Upstate Forever
We worked with the local land trust to identify the most critical properties in Upstate SC for conservation. A summary of the project can be found here with publications here and here
The Organic Center
We worked with the Organic Center to improve and promote the Healthy Farm Index, an on-farm biodiversity assessment tool
SC Forestry Association
We worked with Sustain SC and the Forestry Association to identify the most threatened and important forest patches in South Carolina. A summary of the project can be found here
